1. I want to buy a new computer. What is the best computer configuration for my usage?

If you use your computer for general purpose tasks like word processing and spreadsheets, most "over the counter" systems should be adequate. The least expensive quality computer built today has adequate specifications to suit most normal operations.

If you use your computer for complicated applications that require multi-tasking, large databases, computer-assisted drafting, or photo or video editing, you will require a more powerful computer. System speed, disk capacity, RAM, and a good monitor are all important factors to consider.

2. How can I update my antivirus program?

The majority of new antivirus programs enable users to update their antivirus program through the software. Open the Anti-virus program and look for "Update", "Check for updates", "Live Update", or something similar and let the program to check the website and look for any updates. If any, program would start downloading and updating software automatically.

3. Should I run an update or patch I receive in e-mail?

Today many viruses and worms are distributed through e-mail and to help make the virus spread even more the virus or worm may make itself look as if it is coming from a legitimate source such as Microsoft. Although these e-mails may appear legitimate by signing the e-mail from well-know companies , like Microsoft, it is very likely that the e-mail is not legitimate.

The fact is a large company such as Microsoft, Norton, McAfee, etc. is not going to distribute mass e-mails to users, especially an e-mail that contains a file. If you believe that your computer, Operating System, or software program needs updates that you visit the companies official page to obtain the updates.

Note: If you have signed up for a company's newsletter or mailing it is possible a company may be sending you e-mails. However, it is still very unlikely for the company to distribute attachments with the e-mail.
